I am so excited to share that you are the readers of my first ever blog posts. I can’t wait to take the journey with you as I encourage, JM(TakeCareOf)U.

My name is Stephanie Smith. I am a Senior (cue tears) majoring in Media Arts & Design and Communication Studies with concentrations in Converged Media and Public Relations. All of that is a long way of saying I like to write and make websites. Guess I stumbled on the right place for me.

As a JMU student, I am involved in many things. I am the Vice President of Marketing for Alpha Phi Sorority. I am the Financial Director of the Madison American Advertising Federation. I hold a job as a Student Web Developer in the Office of Admissions, and am also a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, the JMU Honors Program and Student Ambassadors. I believe my involvement in a variety of areas on campus will allow me to give you a well-rounded perspective throughout this website.

This past summer, I interned for Wine By Design, the official wine licensee of the MLB and for Fox Sports Public Relations. In the past, I have also interned for Herff Jones, Tips for Town and Matchbox Realty. I look forward to taking all the skills I have learned throughout my different experiences and applying them to this website, in my effort to make it a useful source for you.

When I think about health, I think about happiness. To me, a healthy body and a healthy mind means a happy body and a healthy mind. My sorority raises money for Women’s Heart Health, and being that I am in charge of all of our philanthropic efforts, this cause means so much to me. Two of my sisters have celiac disease, so I am aware of the effects food can have on one’s body. I grew up playing sports, and come from a family who has always supported a healthy lifestyle.

The point I want to make to you, most importantly, is this: I am just like you. I am a female. I am a JMU student. I was disappointed when D-Hall closed down. I am intimidated by the overwhelming size of the new UREC. I get bummed when the busses are too full forcing me to walk to class. I love the buff bites at Dukes (don’t hold the ranch). And, I also care. I care about my health and well-being. I care about my classes. I care about my peers. I care about making the most out of my college experience. As a Senior, I have learned how to balance all of these things, and thus, have had the best (not yet 4) years.

Thank you for visiting our blog. I look so forward to helping JM(TakeCareOf)U.

All my purple & gold love,

Stephanie
